Hearty Potato Soup

5 medium potatoes, peeled & cubed 2 tsp. chopped chives
1 medium onion, chopped 2-3 tsp. chicken bouillon granules
1/3 cup celery, chopped 2 cups cubed ham
3 cups water American cheese slices
1 tsp. salt  

Preparation:

Combine potatoes, onion, celery and salt in water.  Bring to boil; reduce to a simmer and cook until potatoes are tender.  Add rest of ingredients except cheese.  Simmer for about 30 minutes.  Turn heat off.  Place slices of cheese on top of soup; cover until cheese melts.  Stir soup and serve.
