Orange Slice Cake

2 sticks margarine 1 lb. dates, chopped
2 cups sugar 1 lb. orange slice candy, chopped
4 eggs 2 cups nuts, chopped
1 tsp. soda 1 can flaked coconut
1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup buttermilk 2 cups powdered sugar
3-1/2 cups flour

Preparation:

Cream margarine and sugar, add eggs, one at a time, beating well.  Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture.  Place flour in a large bowl; add dates, orange slices and nuts; coating each piece. Add flour mixture and coconut to creamed mixture, small amounts at a time.  Pour in greased and floured tube pan.  Bake at 250° for 3 hours.  Combine orange juice and powdered sugar and pour over hot cake.  Let stand in pan overnight.  Before removing, run a knife around outer edge and center hole to help cake turn loose.
